Wardrobe Woobie

{Balenciaga 2007 fall collection}

It was during the spring and summer of 2007
that these images started showing up
in magazines and online.

This confirmed what I had already suspected....
the scarf was hot!

{net-a-porter}

 It didn't take long for my one cute taupe scarf
to turn into a full on obsession for me.

{anthropologie}

I began wearing scarves with everything!
Heading into the summer months, this only increased.

{Madewell for ShopBop}

So long pashminas, good bye summer sweaters,
the scarf was the go to accessory of choice.

Either looped onto a bag or
casually draped around your neck,
it was there when you needed it...
frigid air conditioned restaurants, offices
and stores be damned!
{intermix}

Soon enough,
there was a scarf at every price point,
and in every color combination.

{old navy}

Since 2007, I have amassed quite a collection of scarves.
It always fits, never hurts my feet (or my bank account),
and it goes with everything...is it any wonder that
this accessory has become my wardrobe woobie.

{intermix}

I keep thinking I should be over it...
it's all about the cardigan now...right?

But then I spy these gorgeous
Marika Charles summer cotton scarves...
and I know...
I need  my  WOOBIE!

{what's your wardrobe woobie?}

  2. Scarves have always been popular in Europe. I, too, have a weakness for scarves. Just yesterday I contemplated purschasing yet another; but on second thought i did not. I have an entire wardrobe dedicated to scarves. I think that's enough, don't you? ;-)

  3. I'm not into the scarves only because my brain can't handle anything else right now and I would have to put thought into choosing one. Ever feel like you need a personal assistant? My summer thing is belts. Fabric ones, kinda preppy, some are a little more boho. I feel like I can wear simple capris and a T shirt very plain - but choose a fun belt and I'm ready to go.

  6. we must be separated at birth! its a standing joke that i'm not seen with one around my neck or in my purse. I love them. Its to the point that it's what my friends give me for bday presents b/c they know i love em! i even pulled out my first one which is more like a pashmina but it's super wide yesterday, and used it as a blanket at the Dr.'s office. ha.
    fun post. yea to our woobies.

  11. Ive been wearing scarves year round for years!!! In NYC scarves are pretty much an obsession, everyone loves em!

    My favorite is a washed out floral one that I bought from Calypso... it also doubles as a cover up for summer!

  12. Scarves are great. I guess my must haves or addictions are jeans and the cute J. Crack sleeveless shirts. Also fun necklaces or rings to dress up simple outfits.

  13. Aren't scarves great? The work-horse of accessories! I love Virginia Johnson's scarves. Soo pretty! xx

  14. You got me to thinking about what is my woobie. I don't think I have one but I can not live with out what I wear when it is a bad hair day or I just don't want to do my hair or it is windy and rainy out and that is my baseball hat in white or black, wear it all the time, put on earrings sunglasses lipstick and blush and out the door I go!!

  17. I am obsessed with scarves as well but the weather here in the Tropics wouldn't cooperate with my obsession.

    Glad to meet you! xoxo

  18. Me too. Love them and should probably buy a few more because I find myself almost daily weaing the same pure white linen-ish scarf. I like the intermix options above. . .

  19. I'm the same! I have a ridiculous collection of them. I wear them almost every single day.Today I really should not be wearing one. I'm wearing a pink & black dress and leggings and flats and a long cardi. That should be enough, right? But no, I have my love quotes scarf wrapped around my neck :)

  20. I love to braid a scarf into my hair, but I hate anything around my neck other than jewelry. I love the look, but it makes me nuts! My daughter is in grade school, and they all have tons of scarves, for every outfit!

  21. I'm a late-comer to the whole scarf thing... going to try harder this spring and summer. Thanks for all the inspiration and enthusiasm!
    Thanks too for stopping by to visit me.

  22. I know, right? I have so many scarves now that I need a special place for them. I am excited to wear them as a piece of fashion rather than function.

  23. I absolutely LOVE light scarves for spring and summer! That orange one is great -- so cheery and bright.

  25. I love scarves too. Throw one on with jeans and a white t-shirt and it looks like you put in a little effort.

  26. Both my mom and sister LOVE scarves, so I'm always buying them great styles for their birthdays, etc. As for me, love the look on others, but always feel a bit silly wearing them myself -- but I'm kind of a minimalist when it comes to accessories (except for shoes and purses!).

  27. Earrings and scarves and it is perfect!! It can make a very simple outfit look fab!

  28. I'm obviously much older than you...probably your mom's age...and I have a collection of scarves that span decades. I even have my mother's scarves since she passed. It is one collection that I'll never get rid of because they keep showing up in fashion from year to year. The trend has not always been as hot as it is now, but they'll always return in one form or another. Never send these to the resale store or give them away...you'll regret it when the trend turns back to them....and it will!

  29. I have a full blown scarf addiction... LOVE the tie dyed ones you featured. Looks like I may have to add one more to the collection!

  30. I have to admit, I used to be a huge scarf girl myself, but I find myself gravitating to my cardigans more this season. I love a great scarf though, especially with a tank top and my white jeans.

  31. Haha, as I read this I was feeling the soft ends of the blue pashmina that's wrapped around my neck-there should be an addict group for us! Cute post! *Amy

  33. Cute flats and scarves, scarves and more scarves. I'll pick one up anywhere-as long as I like it. I found a great white and blue striped scarf at Target last week. Great post~as always!

  34. You can never have too many scarves, I think, plus I'm a big friend of a warm neck. Your new discoveries are very tempting!

  35. i am obsessed with scarves!!!
    just when i think i can't possibly use another scarf, i add one more to the collection.

  36. I have to confess I am so not a spring scarf girl. Maybe I just haven't found the right one, though, because when I see it on other people - I just love it! Marija

    I'm just not sure I have a consistent wardrobe woobie... maybe I need one!?

  39. I've been trying to find the perfect sping/summer scarf and I've had no luck yet finding it :( ... This post is making me more determined to head out to the stores and keep looking!

  40. I love scarves! I am thinking I need to come up with a better system to organize them, they are taking over my closet! They are such an inexpensive way to spice up any outfit. :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. i've become a big fan of the spring scarf while traveling in europe — tying it on a handbag is the perfect solution for changing temperatures and freezing airplanes!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love scarves, I just wish I could wrap them so they were cool looking like the ones here :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh I have quite the collection too. Especially the Love Quotes from Calypso. In fact, I must do a post on how the manager at the East Hampton Calypso manager taught me how to tiee it the way Calvin Klein taught her. A secret knot ;)

  44. love these! i have a ton of them :)

  50. As I cycle a lot here in Amsterdam I am always in to scarves. My favourite at the moment is a Paul Smith scarve with small green dots.

  51. Firstly, I absolutely love the first picture.
    Secondly, I have to say that I am totally in love with those scarves too.
    Love how they evolved into exciting and beautiful forms!

  52. I am adoring these scarves, especially those Intermix tie-dye ones! I haven't gotten around to scarves yet but think that the keeping your neck warm in freezing restaurants is justification enough! I had to laugh we were just talking about how I wear cardigans year round even when they're way out because you can take them off so easily and I never know if I'll be hot or cold. Love this post! Hope you are having a good week so far Sue!

  56. love the scarves--something light and bright and cheery for the spring!

  57. Those intermix scarves are to die for! But, seriously I am with you on the scarf obsession. Here in Europe, especially Italy, no one leaves the house without one. The are heavily addicting.
