Is it my imagination?
Or are rocking chairs from decades
past, appearing in all the chicest spots lately....

All of these look fabulous in these spaces, but I still don't care for rocking chairs for some reason.

Scientific Housewife said...

I hope so, I have a rocking chair in the guest bedroom that needs a cushion upgrade!

style'n said...

beautiful and I think we had one like #6 in our house when I was growing up!

A Flair for Vintage Decor said...

Oh my! I have seen the rocking chair in pic #6 for a long time in antique malls, flea markets and estate sales and have just passed over them -- however that picture is making me look at them in a different way!!

Diana Mieczan said...

We used to have one....long time ago and I think I would love to get the vintage one now:)

Kisses,sweetie and enjoy your day

Yes, and I Love Love Love... My mother owns a few of these that I'm thinking of refinishing!

Seems like it, but I think the only ones I would do are the 2nd and last one.

I love a good rocking chair! Finally, fashion and comfort have intersected!

Acanthus and Acorn said...

You are so right! They are like the trendy version of the occasional chair!!!

THE ALTERNATIVE WIFE said...

Oh they certainly are! These are great too. I've been wanting a rocking chair for like ever but couldn't find a style I liked and that would fit in my space until now. Thanks!

Belly said...

Love the aesthetic, though somehow I don't find them comfy. The cane back chair (with the Arco lamp) is gorgeous and the one in the last pic is my favorite.

CDS said...

The black one with woven back...that's the kind we have. We were going to use it in the nursery but it needs some TLC and I would hate for it to break. So reptty. I am also a fan of the Eames rocker. xo

ilene @ muchloveilly said...

such a fun rocking chair! mod and traditional is such a great combo. :)

Shannon @ What's Up Whimsy said...

Very true observation! I have been wanting an Eames rocker for so long and I really don't think it will ever go out of style.

CJ said...

Awww makes me miss my rocker. I let my SIL borrow it, they broke it before I had even left that weekend.

I really like how they incorporated these rockers with amazingly chic furniture and decor!

Rocking Chairs have been my childhood obsession but we never had the right corner or enough space or one. Really like the wooden chair!!!

Ren- Lady Of The Arts said...

I love the one where the poster on the mantel has a rocking chair to match!

lisaroyhandbags said...

I've always loved rocking chairs - there's just something so homey about them! My grandmother used to have the best orange wooden one but it's long gone now...

anita @ a dreamer's den said...

my mom has that exact bentwood rocker. she has relegated it to the basement storage room. i think she either needs to give it to me(!) or bring it out of hiding!! xo

Fee-AMore said...

It is certainly not your imagination! I have been seeing a lot of these rocking around in many good inspirational homes. It just reminded me, maybe i need one to rock it too.

The Simply Luxurious Life said...

There really is something soothing about a rocking chair - maybe it brings us back to our childhood, or maybe just the soothing rocking squeak is has a calming effect.

I am still impressed with the simplicity of SJP's chair in her Hampton's home. Great post.

The wooden rocker in the second photo is simply amazing! I now have it as my mission to try and hunt it down.

OneCraftyFox said...

TWO of my friends purchased really cool modern rocking chairs lately!!

Stacey said...

These are all beautiful! I love number two because it looks like a piece of art/sculpture by itself. It may need a cushion for comfortable rocking though:-).

I love it. I've got a rocking chair in storage that was passed down to me, maybe it's time for it to re-appear!

Such a soothing piece of furniture...

Susie @ Maddie's Nest said...

We had one with a cane back and seat growing up and I now wonder what became of it. Everything seems to come back eventually, doesn't it?

Emelie - C'est LA vie said...

Oh totally! I couldn't live without mine (which btw looks exactly like the one in the third pic from below) ...Perhaps I'll paint it black, that looks awfully chic! Xx

Love a rocking chair -- vintage or not! Dying for a pair for my upstairs' porch.

Jess said...

Rocking chairs are great aren't they! I bought one for my friend when she had a baby but after it sat in my lounge for a month I didn't want to give it away haha. I love the mirror in the fourth pic down by the way!

I wish my mom had hung on to the one we had growing up... xx

I have one in my own "naughty corner" where I sit with my LARGE gin and contemplate. A must and cheaper than a shrink. xo

Love the simple aesthetic of them!

Susan - be sure to stop by when you have time - I have an award I'd like to give you. Very much deserved. =)

the 2nd and last one are rocking my world. pun fully intended.

I loooooooove the white one. So cool. It would be perfect in our teeny tiny nursery!

Dovecote Decor said...

Rock on! Every house needs a rocker. I like mine on the porch, mixed with a long view into the distance. I love gliders, swings, hammocks, and hanging wicker chairs from the 70's. I occasionally like one with a guitar.

Charlotta Ward said...

These babes can rock on for ever in my book!
I have hung onto an old heirloom rocking chair that my grandmother had in her home as a young girl. It needs a little TLC but will look fab when restored.
I love rocking chairs!

Very cool... Where were these when I was doing my nursery? Just kidding, I have a really cool wicker one from Ikea.

I totally agree! And I am really glad I stumbled along your blog. I found a beautiful rocking chair in my Mom's attic and was wondering if I should dust it off! Now I think I just might.

surely the eames chair will outlive us all!

So pretty! What a lovely round up. This makes me think, isn't it nice to know that new moms who are looking for a rocking chair for a babies room can have some fab rather than the regular drab??

I have noticed several rocking chairs when I have been out looking for furniture for the house. I have an old wicker one I bought at auction, and i drag it out side for the summer and then back into the dry for winter.

I have a rocker similar to the one in #6 from my grandma - it's a little worse for wear and I was thinking I need to paint it. I just need to figure out what room it wants to live in. I love rockers!!!
