What Comes Around Goes Around

It's no secret that "everything old is new again," which is why I'm completely addicted to the tumblr, My Vintage Vogue.   I can't help but notice how much of what is considered stylish and chic today in home decor and fashion is directly influenced and inspired by the past.  All of the above photos were taken more than fifty years ago, yet it's hard not to notice all of the overlap these images have with what is considered fresh and relevant in style today.

Oh boy...I might have to go check out that site. And that makes me nervous. I don't need another thing to become addicted to!

Beautiful fashion like home decor never goes out of style! Love these images (reminds me of my mom when she modeled in the 1950's)! She still has a swing coat from that era...

Great photos. I also enjoy looking at 50's movies. How did women do it then? they always looked so well put together, the fur, the evening dress, the hats , gloves...

You have chosen some wonderful photos to illustrate this point. Designers are consatntly looking towards the past for inspiration. These fashions are just as perfect now as what they were 50 years ago.

So true!! My mother had lots of fun leopard pieces including a fabulous pair of leopard shoes which I would love to wear but they are a 10AAAA! She had canoe feet!!

So true! My mom just handed me a ton of my grandmother's vintage clutches that she "has no use for" and I discovered they were insanely chic. You know why? They were names like Givenchy and probably cost a ton of money. I think that's why they endured- people wanted to get their money's worth. Maybe not, but it's a theory I like.

Oh how I love a Leo-Pard coat. And all of these looks, really.

These are beautiful! I always say that my mom's wedding dress from the 50's is more timeless than my sisters' dresses when got married in the 70's, and 80's. (I still love mine the best, though! ;) I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that they were trying to make beautiful clothes rather than push the envelope. Thanks for sharing these!

Sue,
Great images...love this post and all the animal print! I'm a huge fan of stylish interiors and fashion, not trendy (well, maybe a few fashion trends here and there to keep me looking fresh!)

It was all so elegant and styled. With our relaxed and casual way of living today when we look back it all looks so marvellous and perfect. Carla

I love that this style is in right now. It just seems so lovely and "nice" opposed to much of what has been in vogue in recent years (um Ed Hardy hats? - blech!)

It's all cyclical. And then a show like Mad Men comes along and makes everything old so very new again.

I have to agree...everything old is totally new again. This really struck me when I was digging around my grandma's closet and started borrowing her clothes! These images so beautiful...going to check out this tumblr now. thanks for sharing!
