Sunday Style Obsession: Stem Stretchers

Having neither long nor lean legs means having to employ every optical illusion fashion trick in the book.  Which is why the abundance of nude tone shoes in towering heights has me so excited.  A great way to fake the look of legs that go on for miles....Two stand out favorites:

This Mui Mui shoe for evening...

And, this amazing Jimmy Choo espadrille for daytime and more casual nights out. What, if any, "fashion smoke and mirror tricks" do you have up your sleeve?

  1. Nude shoes are the great leg lengthener, for sure. I found a pair by Cole Haan last season that I fell in love with, but I just couldn't part with that much dough in one swipe. Of course, now your post is making me rethink that decision!

  2. Oh I love wearing high heels as I am only 5'2 but nude doesn't suit me, I'm too pale and I never wear nude colours. Just one of those things. With my very pale Irish skin and freckles nude just doesn't look right.

    All things nice...

  3. I love all of your choices and I love how a nude shoe just goes with everything! I always find skirts to be slimming... and who doesn't like dressing like a girl?! xo

  4. Sue,
I'm with you, I absolutely adore nude shoes. I just bought a simple, but gorgeous pair before the holiday season. Not only do nude shoes make the leg appear longer, they just look chic to me. Happy New Year!

  5. Stem stretchers, funny but more like ankle busters for me. I'm tall so don't need a lift and I'm klutzy but just once it would be nice to be able to wear something like these beautiful shoes!

  7. Sorry - my computer decided I was done with my entry - my explanation was that under pants you can wear whatever height or style shoe you want and automatically extend the visual length of your leg. But for skirts and dresses - of course nude is a great choice!!

  10. Yes, very chic! I would look for anything that camouflages my sometimes less-than-flat tummy a little. I'm pretty tall, but I love a good wedge heel. It just can't be too tall or I tower over everyone especially my husband who is just my height (if we're barefoot)!

  11. Oh I would happily own both of those. I own 5" nude pumps and they are perfection. These more summery options are gorgeouss.

  12. Love those Miu Miu - I think nude shoes are one of the all time best little tricks out there. That...and clothes that fit well. Here's to looking our best in 2011! xoxo

  13. Wow i'm 5ft and never have worn nude shoes. Now that I know that they can make you appear taller I am definitely going to have to grab a pair.

  14. I am with Roses....I am 5'2 and never thought to wear nude shoes....now I'll have to try some on next time I am at the store. There is a Jimmy Choo within walking distance to my house.....maybe the baby and I need to take a stroll this afternoon so Daddy can enjoy football in peace :)

    Hope you are well.

  15. I make sure I get pants that fit super nice in the hip/rear arena, I mean area and then have them the perfect length to hide and show just enough of a "stem stretcher" like beautiful ones you've featured above! I need to upgrade :)

  16. Was just shoe shopping at the Greenwich Saks, this afternoon...love the nude platform high heels...how to you spend an evening, yet alone an entire day wearing these? i always start the day with a great pair of hells...then inevitably go back to my Prada ballet flats..

  17. I sacrifice style for comfort everyday. Maybe my resolution should be investing in some hot shoes like these. My stems could use a little help!

  18. Sue I can definitely identify, at 5 foot 1 and-a-half {yes, the half really counts!} I need these heels as well! Lovely finds.

  20. Ah I love a nude shoe -- have a pair of Michael Kors sandals that I can't wait to bust out again this spring/summer.

I'm a HUGE fan of a well cut blazer. As someone with broad shoulders and zero waist it does wonders for creating the illusion of that hourglass shape that I long for.

  26. Gorgeous -- I'm a sorta former shoe whore.
Black is always a brilliant go-to and I've just added some bright new cosmetica to my look this season.
Go hit Nero to check it out.

  29. i have been daydreaming about those miu miu heels. they make them in a short heel too (not that i'd be interested in that). i have short, dumpy legs so i also am always buying nude shoes.
