Sentimental Summer

It's evening as I type this post.  I've got the windows open, and I can hear the cicadas, the crickets and even the frogs from the pond across the street in a cacophony of woodland night music.  The air has that heady, post rain, loamy smell to it. It's basically a glorious summer evening here in New York.  And yet, these stunning photos taken by the enormously talented French photographer, George Dambier, make me feel sentimental for summers that took place before my time.  Clearly, I'm not the only one drawn to these images, as so much of what is in vogue this summer is almost entirely inspired by summers past.  Do you draw inspiration from bygone eras, or are you always onward, forward!

i got sentimental last night too! i was walking back from the globe after an evening of "much ado about nothing" and the sunset over st pauls was too much. i wish i would have had such a good photographer to capture the mood for me. these are divine!

Your description of your lovely summer evening is enchanting, but I understand your nostalgia. The charm of the good old days is so clear in these vintage-inspired images.

Beautiful pics....oh yes I do very much draw inspiration from bygone eras, way more than the current one! To anyone who knows me well they know I always say I was born in the wrong era, I love the fashions, etiquette, and civility that existed and was de rigour during times from the past. This images exemplify this beautifully.

I love these vintage pics! And I love the fashion - simple, not too revealing, chic. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era :)

We could all use a little vintage in our lives. The class and sophistication of the by gone era is needed.

Oh, yes! The style and pose evoke dreams of the summertime my parents and we children enjoyed at the beaches in the 60' on the Baltic Sea!

Love these images! I could have lived in this era and felt quite comfortable. I love that there was a celebration of life in past eras, and not so much rush from one thing to the next. I appreciate elements from many eras. It seems like you were very much appreciating the beautiful NY summer night.
