It happened again!
I heard her voice...this time while shopping
in New Canaan, CT. !
Why don't you...swathe yourself,
from head to toe,
in Imperial Trellis?
So I did!
Or, at least I tried to...but the clothes really did not look
right on me...
I know Ms. V would have understood,
it's like she used to say,
"Elegance is innate.
It has nothing to do with being well dressed.
Elegance is refusal."
Diana Vreeland

Fun post. I think those dresses are great but probably look better on the hanger than on my 5'2" body! Always love that green image with a bike. I asked for a bike like that for Mother's Day and my husband rolled his eyes. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteI love imperial trellis too! Never seen it on a dress -very cute!
ReplyDeleteHer trellis would have been red all over! You have a knack for finding images...
ReplyDeletepve
Still love imperial trellis. Not sure about the dress though...
ReplyDeleteFun. Love the green and white wallpaper.
ReplyDeleteooh I love her quote. esecially that last line.
ReplyDeleteher biography is wild.
ReplyDeleteyou should check it out. it is nice reading.
great post!
Always love a traditional trellis print, but right now am really drawn to the subtle black on black trellis in that bathroom. A little understated but still impactful.
ReplyDeleteLove the print. The green wallpaper is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWow it really is Everywhere!!
ReplyDeleteI tried a tunic-y top like that and no, wasn't working. But I adore that trellis mirror and the green paper - actually everything in that image works for me!
ReplyDeleteElegance is refusal. I absolutely love that.
ReplyDeleteImperial trellis - always a goody! Thanks for dropping by the Project and your kind words! : )
ReplyDeleteLove it in interiors! But I can totally get what you mean about the dress...don't think it would work on me either :)
ReplyDeleteThat green hallway is divine for so many reasons! The bike, the bike's basket, the wall paper, the fannnntastic wood floors... Swoon.
ReplyDeleteI agree with "Escapade" on the black on black as well, a monochromatic trellis would be a good way to ease into the pattern.
If I were a few years younger I would have snapped up that dress, but I'll take one of everything for the home!
ReplyDeleteOoh lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love the wallpaper so stunning. I too could see how the dress would have to be for a special person to wear. Enjoy! xo
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic post. I really appreciate your writing style, what a great story you tell.
ReplyDeletexx,
Samantha

ReplyDeleteI do so enjoy reading your blog. Now unto today's post.... Love the playfulness of Channeling Diana Vreeland. The dresses remind me of sun drenched afternoons in Barbados. xx

ReplyDeleteCome join my latest giveaway, it's simply delicious!
you are too funny. what shop was this?! i'm missing my native CT while we try to get out of greece :) speaking of, thank you so much for the well wishes! hopefully it's only a matter of time...
ReplyDeleteDon't you just hate when they cut the dress wrong? Love this post. I can't get enough of that Imperial Trellis. Also love the quote. She was a total original. One of my favorite quotes of hers, which I'll butcher, was something like: "Every room should have one absolutely garish thing." I always make sure of it. It's personality. Thanks so much for your sweet comments on my blog! Very encouraging, since I'm still so new to this. Hope you stop by again :)
ReplyDeleteHow ever do you find time to shop, my dear?? Love the store you were in (been there, too!) and can totally relate about not being able to wear those clothes!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress. Love the bathroom. Love the quote.
ReplyDeleteHealth and happiness,

ReplyDeleteLove the dresses and the fabulous print. What a fun post.
ReplyDeleteOh, thank goodness it didn't work on you. Both Diana & I would have gasped! You are much too beautiful for anything to overwhelm you. Lots of good comments on the wallpaper though.
ReplyDeleteOh I am totally crushing on that bathroom. STUNNING!!

ReplyDeleteLove love that dress, too bad it did not work out. That would be a Go-to summer dress for sure. Fun post!!! Kathysue
ReplyDeleteI would look really, really, really bad in that dress. But I so wish that weren't the case!!!
ReplyDeleteFirst - you are FUNNY! Love this and the disco ball lyrics, too... now I have to go listen to the beegees. Second - I used to love driving around New Canaan, particularly in the Spring. It's so, so pretty there!
ReplyDeleteLove the patterns and colors!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteOh I love your story just as much as I love this post! I'm so obsessed with this pattern lately!! "Ba-na-nas!" Is that Kelly Wearstler wallpaper? Also, sooo necessary :) After 2 years of getting lost in numbers, I'm ready to get back to the city to do something more creative! Where do we begin?!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I had actually seen the orange print dress at a local boutique while shopping for Derby outfits. I'm kicking myself for not trying it on, though I don't think orange is my color!
ReplyDeleteOkay, forget the dress! But did I spy a navy imperial Trellis coat...run back post haste Zhush and grab it! Would look sooo good with white or navy jeans!
ReplyDeletexx Lyn
I have the wallpaper in black in my bedroom... think the dress is fug though... Weird looking no?
ReplyDeleteI think I will stick with dressing homes with this print rather than myself! Gorgeous images! Tracey xx
ReplyDeleteYour posts are always so entertaining, Sue! I am a sucker for trellis patterns....
ReplyDeleteI love imperial trellis and it looks amazing on that dress!
ReplyDeleteawesome!
ReplyDeleteI adore Imperial Trellis... so stunning!
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to go with "refusal". While I would love to see the dress on someone else, it also would just not be right on me.
ReplyDelete~jermaine~
Aww bummer. I hate when something looks so good on the hanger or the model and you try it on and it's just bleh. I get mad and kick the mannequins down. Haha. Totally kidding about that last part. But still a bummer. ;)
ReplyDeleteIs the black print an exact replica of the black wallpaper? O dear, I am not sure if I want to wear wallpaper, although the dress is pretty. And the wallpaper is pretty. Yes, I believe it has to be one or the other! I love this post, so much fun!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! How very mod!
ReplyDeletei'm really impressed on how a simple quotation from her can be very inspiring. gorgeous shots. is that your place? i really want a quick tour now ;)
ReplyDeleteI am off to check her out, I had no idea. The wallpaper is to die for, simply stunning. I am not sure I can pull of prints, the most I can do is stripes, but oh to be able to pull off those prints....
ReplyDeleteI truly, truly adore this pattern! Nice post!
ReplyDeleteno. not on clothes.
