Few architectural design elements appeal
to me as much as a built in window seat.
When we bought our home, almost a decade ago,
I hardly knew where to begin decorating.

I hardly knew where to begin decorating.
I chose to have a window seat built in our bedroom.
It's still the best seat in the house.

Great post, as always! I love window seats. Love the first, third and last pics. I wish I had one in my house. I would use it to curl up with a good book or magazine... maybe even do some blogging, all while getting my vitamin D! xo

ReplyDeleteThere is something so cozy about window seats. I love the little blue and white one. It looks so inviting
ReplyDeleteLove window seats! And yours is beautiful! I actually have one in my bedroom that I was waiting to make a cushion for (had to wait till we painted the bedroom, which meant choosing a color, etc.) Now that the room's painted, I need to get on the seat. You've inspired me. Thanks!

Since I was a little girl I've wanted a window seat. Seems the perfect place to curl up and read and escape. Maybe one day...

ReplyDeleteIt's a great way of saving space.
What a wonderful way to pass the day - reading on a windowseat overlooking the garden! Great pictures and inspiration... now off to see Rickshaw Design!
ReplyDeletethe tufted seat rocks! i love it with the canary pillows.
ReplyDeleteUGH! I made roman shades exactly like the ones in your first photo for my bedroom. Well, exactly like those in that they were the same fabric. Not exactly like those in that they didn't look half as good. We have ikea curtains now.
ReplyDeleteLove window seats! Especially with a stream of sunshine coming through. I'm golden when that happens:)
ReplyDeleteLove to spend part of my weekend sitting in my window seat reading
ReplyDeleteNice collection of pictures
they are super cozy aren't they? Love it when its paired with a breakfast table!
ReplyDeletelove the window seat! it's the first design element I added to my new house 4 years ago -- in the mud room. still finishing the space, but can't wait to add a big fat down cushion to the top when it is finally done!
ReplyDeleteOh, you've picked some gorgeous ones. And created a gorgeous one, too!
ReplyDeleteLove window seats, It is on my someday list for my living room. I will say the first image with the black white stripes is a favorite of mine. Oh by the way, I have my finished porch post up today if you want to see more black and white stripes. Also to be honest yours was truly my favorite. How charming to have that in your master. Love the tiny ruffle of the window treatment, great idea. have a great day,Kathysue
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I want one of these. I am definitely going to keep these in mind when we buy our house. Must buy house where I can build a window seat!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I have always wanted a window seat, since I was really little. Did I get one? No, of course not! Now, as an adult, did I get one? Of course not! I might have to add that to the list of musts for a future home! In the meantime, I'm enjoying your pics here! XO!
ReplyDeleteoh I love so much these window seats! why is it that I don't have any at home? well, maybe next time... have a nice day! thanks for the comments! xo
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful post. They truly are the best place to sit, relax and reflect.x
ReplyDeleteI love a great window seat - and this is a great collection. They're just so darn inviting, aren't they? I've got two "faux" (i.e., very shallow) window seats in my current house but I'm determined to decorate them as they they were wide enough to function!
ReplyDeletei completely agree. window seats are my absolute favorite architectural feature, perhaps tied with exposed ceiling beams :) i LOVE yours — definitely a good place to start!
ReplyDeleteI agree that they add a ton of interest to any room. Any built-ins make a room design feel more permanant and lived in.
ReplyDeleteGreat choices!
Great post! I love window seats! Maybe in my next house :o)
ReplyDeleteI can so see you sitting there! mx
ReplyDeleteI love window seats -- I always think they look so cozy :)

ReplyDeleteI adore window seats - they're such cozy, wonderful spaces to curl up in and feel the warm sunlight streaming in... We use the one in our kitchen nook all the time. One of my favorite spots in the house, too!

ReplyDelete...the stripes add great graphic element~LUV!
Gorgeous inspiration pics! And I am LOVING those striped window treatments in the first pic!
ReplyDeleteI love this blog post. I totally agree about window seats, they are the best! I have a bay window in my kitchen breakfast area that is begging for a window seat to be built. I know it would add so much charm to our kitchen and give me a chance to bring in some fabulous fabrics for the cushion, pillows, etc. Time to call my carpenter and get it done rather than just thinking about it!
ReplyDeleteThere's really something comforting about a window seat...something that slows life down and allows us to stop and take a break from the crazy. Love this post, Sue....
ReplyDeleteOh, I have a surprise for you. check out my latest post!
great line up... window seats are classic and timeless... they always make me think of little girls reading or playing with their dolls that grow into young ladies looking longinly at the moon

ReplyDeleteI've always loved window seats - it always brings to mind afternoons daydreaming while the sun shines in. I recently put one of our extra double beds into our screened in porch to create a lovely daybed with lots of big pillows and it's so great to lie there with a book and listen to the breeze rustling through the leaves. xx
ReplyDeleteI love the little single seater. Great fabric and what a spot for a morning coffee!
