The Art Of The Blog

In 1999, pregnant with my first child and severely nauseous as a result, I quit my Color Theory painting class at the 92nd Street Y in New York, packed up my brushes, paints and easel, (as the smell of these would send me reeling), and never thought about creating art again... until this past year.  It seems that so many of the blogs that I gravitate toward are authored by artists.  Inspired by all of these talented ladies, I'm seriously considering making 2011 the year that I unearth my brushes and paints, and get back to it.

  1. Do it! I bet it will be really liberating. And of course...show us the results. As one artist to another I hope your ventures are enriching :)

  3. Before I started blogging, my creative outlet was painting - I have painted countless school auction projects, I have taken oil painting, abstract painting, and encaustic classes through the years. When my kids were young, it was all but impossible to paint at home, as I could not set up and keep the supplies out - and there really wasn't a space for the supplies.

In the new house, there will be a dedicated space for art supplies and artistic endeavors - all of my kids like art (and one of them likes sewing and ceramics) - so, like you, I am hoping to get back into art!

  7. Yes! Yes! You should get back into painting. It's a skill and a talent that shouldn't go by the wayside; I paint as much as I can.
As for me, I am totally inspired by travel for 2011. Not just jaunts to the mountains for a weekend, but real, authentic travel with only a guidebook and good common sense. I'm not sure I'll get there, but it's fun to dream!

  21. Oh, I hear you! Being a wife, mom, lawyer, friend, daughter, sister has gotten in the way. I wanted to paint SO badly last year, and I got busy and the itch passed. My goal this year is to create some art for our walls. As for inspiration - you're the tops! Happy New Year and I hope 2011 is filled with health, happiness, prosperity, family and love. Thanks for all your kind words through the year.

  22. Get busy! I took a painting class this past semester. It helped me so much with colors! I have painted before, but the education in color was so helpful.
    Have a happy 2011.

  25. What a fabulous goal for 2011! Can't wait to see what you create. I was always jealous of people who could make their own art until I realized I don't have to be an expert to make mine! It was such an uplifting realization!

  40. I think I have too many things that inspire me and that's a problem. I need to focus my energy into one. That has proven to be awfully difficult so far...

Big hugs and thank you again.
