"Why don't you paint a map of the world on all four walls of your boys' nursery so they won't grow up with a provincial point of view?"
~Diana Vreeland
So I did! This is my son's little alcove bedroom up in our Vermont condo. We made this room by enclosing a small landing area at the top of the second level stairs. I love how this cozy, sweet room turned out.
That is such a beautiful idea and I love that room:) What a perfect room for a little boy:) Kisses
ReplyDeletePs: I am hosting a great home decor GIVEAWAY later today, so please join in :)

It's fabulous! My husband and I have a great love of maps. I have 4 vintage ones hanging here in my office. I once bought an old one at a garage sale for $2 and it turned out to be from the 1600's. Sold it for $6,000 - that's my great map story :)
ReplyDeleteI love the quote and your take on it. It's fantastic for him to remember the world is a great big adventurous place while sleeping safely in his cozy chic little room. Love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great room! I absolutely LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteIt is so great, Sue!!

ReplyDeleteWho knew Diana was so prolific?!! I have been wanting to do a map wallpaper in my little guy's room - LOVE this!! What a cozy nook to enjoy after a hard day of skiing!!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's great!

ReplyDeleteSo, so lovely -- don't you just adore the Ugly Dolls?

What an absolutely fabulous space! I die over that rug!
ReplyDeleteHow fantastic. I want to live there! How wonderful to fall asleep, dreaming of all the adventures there are to have in the big wide world...Love it!
ReplyDeleteAdore this - how fabulous. I LOVE maps. When we moved in to our old house, there was hideous plaid wallpaper in one of the boy's rooms with a fabulous inset vintage map. So I used millwork trim to frame out the map and tore off the rest of the wallpaper. The new owners still have the framed map there. And of course LOVE Diana Vreeland - own that little why don't you book.
ReplyDeleteThis space is fabulous! I love maps. I could spend hours looking at them!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the space you created, and the quote :)
ReplyDeleteLove that quote and I love your choice of interpretation! The room looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool room to hang out in!

Love it! It looks so good! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeletenice job! thanks for sharing your latest project with us!! happy new year to you and your fam.
ReplyDeleteI love the coziness of the space and the map. What a secure place for a child.
ReplyDeleteOne of my friends showed me the house where she grew up, just before it was sold after her mother's death, and there were maps everywhere that her father had put up. He marked every route they traveled. I'd like a current one of the world, close to the tv and where I read the paper, just to know where activities are going on today. I have not kept up well on changes in countries and cities since first learning geography in my school days.
Did you do the painting yourself or find someone to do it? Either way, it's fabulous.
perfect!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! I love the bed nook, look comfy :)
ReplyDeleteI love using maps as a decorating accent. And I also still remember learning the state capitals from the map placemats my mom got for my sister and me when we were little! :)
