Lately, whatever article I'm reading, whether it be about interiors, art or fashion, someone is always mentioning the work of Alex Katz. It seems that this Brooklyn born artist isn't just popular with the art world, but the fashionable crowd as well. And, it's not hard to see the appeal here. I love how fashion inspires Mr. Katz's portraits, but mostly I love that this artist has dedicated an entire oeuvre of his paintings to his muse, his lovely and quite fashionable wife, Ada. An American love story as told through art... truly inspirational on so many levels!
Wow, not sure I've seen his stuff before. Very sweet that he keeps painting his wife. I like the one in the rain very much.
ReplyDeleteHadn't heard of him. Very cool. Love the one with the umbrella! xo
ReplyDeleteSince art school at the art institute in chicago, I have been a huge fan. Love the work and genre. I will have to do some research today to reconnect.
ReplyDeleteI've heard the name but was not familiar with his work until now. It's really admirable that he uses his wife as his muse rather than plucking an unknowing art "groupie" off the street. :)
ReplyDeleteI can see why the fashion and art world love his work.. Beautiful. Carla
ReplyDeleteLove Alex Katz! I saw a wonderful exhibit of his work at the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland, Maine last summer. Thanks for the reminder and lovely images of his work.
ReplyDeleteInteresting.
ReplyDeleteI'm really drawn to the lady with the blue umbrella...everything about it draws me in, her dreamy expression, the color combinations and the simplicity of it. Thanks for sharing!!!

ReplyDeleteI used to work at a contemporary art gallery and we had one of his works- Truth be told I never really liked it or his work- I find it underdeveloped. The one with the blue umbrella is nice-
ReplyDeleteReally great work. I especially love the one with multiple little black dresses and also the scarf in the rain. Really fantastic stuff.

I used to have a pair of painting like this. It makes me sick I threw them out, as it turns out they were from a French artist and very old! At the time it didn't seem like I'd ever have enough wall space to do them justice, so I think it was a new years resolution to de-clutter. I have been kicking myself ever since!! These are GREAT :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pieces of art - I have heard his name but was not familiar with his pieces. Love the shot in the rain :-)
ReplyDeleteI love his work! The colors are gorgeous.

ReplyDeleteLove. Love, love, love!!
ReplyDeleteOooooh love Alex Katz...I saw him on the art channel and he was telling young painters to 'paint, paint, paint, paint' in order to refine their technique....his studio was amazing...and he had all these paint splatters on the handle of his black rotary telephone and I thought 'even his phone is cooler than I am! (not that it should come as a surprise)
ReplyDeleteI have a book of his works in my foyer...
