Sunday Style Obsession: Hearts

I'm on the fence when it comes to Valentine's Day....silly contrived made up by Hallmark Holiday or fun sweet romantic traditional moment?  With three children and a husband to shower with candy and cards, there are days when I can be convinced that cupid's arrow really has hit me hard...and when I see so many adorable sartorial examples of how to wear one's heart on a sleeve, {literally and figuratively}, I'm thinking... just embrace this day already!

How about you?

  1. I'm with you I'm wishy washy about the holiday, sometimes fun and romantic, sometimes we sort of forget it. The husband on the other hand is always great about it making me feel guilty.

Aside from baking heart shaped biscuits or a cake, we don't bother about it at all, it's just too consumer driven for me. Howveer if I had children it would be pink heart heaven in here.

My feelings about Valentine's Day have shifted over the years. As a young single woman, I LOVED it. Read all sorts of silly meaning into any card, note or flowers delivered. Even during the early years of marriage, it somehow seemed sweet and romantic. Now, although our children enjoy lots of sweets and flowers and gooey sentiments, I no longer care if my hubby sends them along to me. 15 years later, he is my Valentine every day. Thanks for providing a reason to reflect. I think I'll go make a heart-shaped construction paper card..... Roxanne

  9. I am also on the fence, before it beacmea big money maker. I love the concept, and the giving of gifts or cards, but something handmade from heart goes a lot further.

  10. Love hearts, especially sophisticated ones!
I have my eye on a paperweight by Two's Company that looks a lot like that JL clutch except that the diamante are red and larger.
May have to hit the gym tomorrow -- if only just to pop into the boutique there ;P

ya know, it's all in your attitude...
but so is everything in life... why not make up your mind to really enjoy valentine's, but do it your way...don't buy things to mark the event..why not DO something...picnic in the park or a day at the sledding hill but make it special.. do something as a family that is different from the normal stuff you do...
plan in advance...and make some memories for the kids... kids love "traditions" "we do this every year" and they look forward to it...
    good luck...

  12. I look at it as another holiday to shower my lovelies with little gifts and I may have to find that Zara scarf to wrap my daughter's gift...

  13. While I enjoy the opportunity to show my husband and daughter how much I love them I do tend to think it is overblown and my husband feels it is totally a made up day. Part of me agrees but when the day rolls around and no big deal is made I feel a bit left out of the celebration. A real catch-22 I think But I would certainly accept that Judith Lieber bag if someone wanted to give it to me!

  18. Oh how I wish I could afford (or was gifted) a Judith Leiber purse! I love the cupcake one. Those ban.do shoe clips are super cute as well.

Gosh, I can't believe V-day is just around the corner. I don't get too excited for it though... Vday is every day with the hubby.

  19. I always give my husband an antique valentine. The first one I found was already framed. It was a stockbroker boy with an old fashioned ticker tape, so I knew it was for me. I have them framed after. I always pick a motif that has some meaning to us, like snow, or travel. Ann

  23. I think any day that makes us give pause to celebrate the love/blessings in our life is a day worth having...whether it be a holiday or not. Sometimes we need holidays to make us slow down from our busy lives and do something that isn't done on a daily basis...going out to dinner, family dinner, afternoon at a museum, etc. You got a lot of love to celebrate in your home and of course, I know you'll do it in style!

  24. I am in the minority but v day is one of my favorite holidays. I love all of the pink and red. Christmas is so busy that this is a great holiday to just be about me and the hubs.

  25. In our house if it wasn't for the kids we wouldn't even acknowledge VD. The kids tend to bring out the sentimentality in me.

  26. I agree with Hamptontoes on this one.
I think any 'excuse' or 'reason' to celebrate love and the ones we care for. So be it commercial or not, I am all for Valentines!

  28. I wasn't really into Valentine's day until I had children. I love the excuse to do something special for them... and to help them make cute little Valentine's for their friends.

  30. I love the shoes / heart shoe clips, so sweet!

I love the holiday, but we don't do anything over the top, we just stay in and celebrate with the baby, make gifts for each other. It's fun to celebrate love :)
