The Scent Of A Room

Over the long weekend I received the most thoughtful hostess gift.  I'm so enamored of this sweet candle, that I thought I would share it here.  Jo Malone fragrances has partnered with Ashley Hicks, the son of the late legendary British interior designer, David Hicks.  Three classic Hicks prints have been reinterpreted for these limited edition candles.  I received the one above, which not only looks perfect in my green and purple office, but smells sublime!  I'm now considering purchasing the other two...

New To The Scene: Entra Magazine

Part of this Memorial Day weekend was dedicated to catching up with some of my favorite shelter and design magazines.  I'm happy to suggest one of the newest to this arena, Entra Magazine.  A new bi-monthly digital magazine, it's pretty impressive!  The founding team consists of all former Architectural Digest staffers, and the photos are reminiscent of that publication, in other words, beautiful!

Shopping The Catalogs: Danish Design Store

Completely charmed by these adorable Eames elephants spotted in the Danish Design Store catalog this past weekend.  Little by little, it seems that elephants in design and decor are not only catching my eye, but marching one by one, and then two by two, right into my home!

$100 Shopbop Gift Card Giveaway!

Summer is just about here, and it's time to start thinking about shorts, and how (and if!) I'm going to show some leg.  With so many short styles this summer, there's got to be a flattering option for every body type....right?   I know Shopbop will have some shorts that will work. For a chance to win a $100 gift card from Shopbop, just leave a comment here letting us know which type of shorts you prefer.
J Brand Houlihan: My pick!
In the heat of summer, it’s great to have a pair of shorts that are versatile enough to be worn with many outfits, but comfortable enough to be worn every day.  J Brand Shorts have denim, cuffed, and Bermuda shorts in many different materials and patterns that can be worn with a multitude of outfits.  Try a flattering denim fit with flip flops for everyday, or dress them up with heeled sandals for a night on the town.
For a day at the beach, comfort and durability conquers all.  You want a short that can handle sand and sun without compromising style.  Material is ultra-important for the beachcomber. Try a terrycloth or linen fabric, like those in the Juicy Couture Shorts collection.  These beach shorts come in versatile fits and comfortable fabrics that can be worn with a bathing suit or a chic tunic.  Best of all, they’ll keep you looking stylish for fun in the sun.

The most challenging part of the summer short collection is finding the perfect fit that is glamorous for a night on the town.  Make a statement with a bright print and show off your tan with these Short Shorts.  Pair a high waisted fit with heels for retro-glam, or bring out those teeny-tiny shorts with flats for a sexy statement.  Either way, these shorts are ready to take your style from dusk ‘til dawn.

See how you can style your summer shorts and share your ideas on the Shopbop blog.

To enter this giveaway for a $100 Shopbop gift card, simply become a follower of The Zhush blog here, or on twitter or subscribe or "like" The Zhush on facebook, and leave a comment telling us your favorite type of shorts. We'll draw one winner at random on June 5th, 2011.  Winner announced June 6, 2011.  Open worldwide.  Good Luck!!!

NYSD Inspires House Beautiful

During last week's Blogfest, we heard from several top shelter magazines.  House Beautiful's Editor in Chief, Newell Turner, spoke about what inspires him. More than once, Newell mentioned his admiration for New York Social Diary.  As a long time fan of this site, I knew just what he meant.  NYSD always focuses on such visually interesting apartments...the very ones I was always trying to peak into when I still lived in Manhattan. However, unlike magazines, the photos here are less styled and much more lived in.  Toothbrushes, toiletries, books and ephemera, it's all out in the open.   I couldn't resist posting this home belonging to designer, Amanda Nisbet.  Often featured in magazines, Ms. Nisbet is no stranger to the polished photos of the high end shelter world, which is why it's so great to see her apartment in a different yet equally as lovely light.  (And speaking of House Beautiful, have you checked out the amazing new paint color app they've developed? So addictive!)

Monogram Love

I literally can not get enough monograms!  So, when Melanie of The Iconic Blog asked me to do a guest post showing how I would use Luxury Monograms, I was more than happy to participate.  You can check it out here!

When The Show Is Over

Talking about designer showhouses yesterday, had me wondering what happens after the show.  The showhouse properties are almost always for sale (don't you wonder who buys them? I do!)...but with so many different designers in one spot, the overall decor effect is usually so disjointed, to say the least.  In an effort to hunt down a story about homeowners that have purchased a showhouse, I laughed when I came across this article in New England Home MagazineCindy Rinfret, the designer hired for this former Greenwich, Connecticut design house, referred to it as a "painted lady in distress."  I've seen enough showhouses to know exactly what she meant.  Fortunately, Ms. Rinfret was able to bring the house back to it's former grandeur and even add a lot of fresh new style.

Showhouse Season

Springtime means Showhouse season across the nation, as charities and decorators get together to raise money, awareness and designers' profiles, all at the same time.  I'm looking forward to attending the Westchester Showhouse later this week, so I thought I would highlight the work of Carey Karlan of Last Detail interior design. Carey's beautiful room for this year's Showhouse  (as seen above) is garnering a lot of positive attention.  A purple loving girl after my own heart, here's a look at some more of Carey's work.
