Obsession Du Jour: EvaJuliet Ateliers

As we head closer to winter and the days grow shorter,  I'll need all the motivation I can get.  Whether it be to stay focused, go to the gym, get name it, for me, the lack of sunlight plus colder temps makes everything a bit more of a challenge.  So when I stumbled across the fun and stylish inspirational prints of EvaJuliet Ateliers, I knew these were exactly what I needed.  I love the retro typography on this "Pep Art" collection just as much as I need to heed these messages!

Fifteen Years Ago Today

{how can that be?}

Do you remember the 28th night of September?
Love was changing the minds of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away

Our hearts were ringing
In the key that our souls were singing.
As we danced in the night,
Remember how the stars stole the night away

My thoughts are with you
Holding hands with your heart to see you
Only "blue" talk and love,
Remember how we knew love was here to stay

Now December found the love that we shared in September.
Only "blue" talk and love,
Remember the true love we share today~yeah

Happy Anniversary Mr. Zhush!

For a much more detailed account of this night, please check out the guest post I did back in June about our wedding on The Now.

Cozy + Cheerful

I'm so drawn to interiors that exude a happy vibe.  Sometimes it's the colors or the patterns, or it could be the furniture choices or even just an abundance of light that creates an uplifting environment.  With Katie Rosenfeld Design, I think it's all of the above and so much more.  Have a look, and tell me your mood isn't just a little bit brighter...

Anglophile Style

Today I'm excited to introduce you to the work of British interior designer Sophie Paterson.  Sophie and I first connected several months ago through twitter, and I've been admiring her work ever since.  Since I'm a true Anglophile at heart (studying and living in London for a semester in law school had a big effect on me), I like to think that Sophie and I are kindred spirits.  We're both drawn to so many of the same things, that when I recently ran across a feature on Sophie's work in online British magazine Heart Home, it was like seeing an old friend!  Enjoy this small sample of Sophie Paterson Interiors, and be sure to check out her whole portfolio as well.  (p.s. Heart Home Magazine is a great read!)

The "un" Bookcase

The Sapien bookcase has been on the design scene for quite some time, but it's only recently that it crept from somewhere in the back of my subconscious to the forefront of my latest "wants" list.  I'm sure seeing it styled at Lonny Magazine's associate market editor Ellie Somerville's chic apartment, in the beautiful Hampton's home of designer Laura Day, and then finally in Lonny Editor in Chief, Michelle Adam's stylish pad had a lot to do with this.  I'm thinking that the black and white master bedroom in our ski condo could use a dash of color as well as some height from a vertical piece.  What do you think of this artful way to display your books?

Glittering crowds
And shimmering clouds
In canyons of steel-
They're making me feel
I'm home.

It's Autumn in New York
That brings the promise of new love.

I recently finished reading The Rules of Civility: A Novel, by Amor Towles, which conjures up a retro-chic Manhattan of the 1930s (complete with cocktails).  The song, Autumn in New York, is mentioned in this book, along with this quote:  "Once a year, a city's architectural, cultural and horticultural variables come into alignment with the solar course in such a way that men and women passing each other on the thoroughfares feel an unusual sense of romantic promise.  Like Christmastime in Vienna, or April in Paris.  That's the way we New Yorkers feel about fall.  Come September, despite waning hours, despite the leaves succumbing to the weight of gray autumnal rains, there is a certain relief to having the long days of summer behind us; and there's a certain paradoxical sense of rejuvenation in the air."
To say that I loved this novel would be an understatement...have you read it?

Happy First Day Of Fall ~ Cheers!

Brighter Than The Sun

Ooooh, this is how it's done...after completely over dosing (in a good way) on all the New York Fashion Week coverage of Spring 2012, I know one thing for sure...I'm going to be wearing a lot of yellow (starting now).  It's clearly such a happy, sunny hue.  What was your favorite trend?
{Jil Sander, I die}

Not sure how to work the yellow trend?  Try just a little unexpected pop (my favorite look).

New Sponsor Spotlight: Kokoon

I'm thrilled to welcome newest sponsor, Kokoon. A great company to work with, they sent me the top in the image above.  Not only do I adore this "pucci-esque" print, but it fits perfect, feels great on and here's the best part, it's so incredibly versatile!  I was so inspired by all the various ways to wear this cute top, that I had to share some of them here.  I wish every piece in my closet was this easy to switch up.  Here is my take on a summer/resort evening, weekend day and a date night.  How would you rock this fun piece?
For more fabulous and versatile clothing options, check out Kokoon.

A Happy Accident

Like most bloggers and e-shop owners, I spend a lot of time online.  Usually, I'm cruising the net for inspiring images, new inventory, decor ideas, etc., but it was during a very unrelated search (think children's homework help) that I stumbled across the fabulous interiors site of South African designer, Kim Stephen.  All these serene spaces struck me as so completely fresh and chic.  Since this portfolio literally stopped me in my tracks...I just had to share it here!
