Can't Get Enough: Library Ladders

Having successfully climbed its way
out of the library,
the ladder makes such a chic style statement.

It takes any room's decor to the next level.

I love the ladders by the bookshelves! I would just pretend I needed a book so I could play on the ladder all day! Fun. I often wish I had a ladder in the kitchen, I have to drag a chair over to reach the high cabinets. xo

  2. I'm torn, I would only want in my decor only if it was going to be used. However, in the rooms you have pictured they are lovely.

  3. Yes, to new heights! We have high ceilings and our kitchen cabinets are built to the ceiling. But we're lacking in the ladder department and I need one.

  4. I love ladders, a library would be fabulous but is not in my reality, perhaps a kitchen ladder, I really would like my upboards to go to the ceiling & I am a shorty!!!

  13. Oh my gosh, so pretty. I just love this post. I had no idea how much I needed a library ladder in my life until now! And now, I don't know how I imagined my life without one.

  14. They so add so much character to a room and the wheels are great! One of my friends used to live in an old white plantation kind of house and in the back of the house was a large living room - complete with red carpet and red velvet drapes hanging at it's many windows - there was an entire wall of bookshelves - packed full - and the rolling library ladder. It was beautiful - red and all! when they moved they left the books and I have a feeling that is what previous owners did. I'd love to see what treasures were on those shelves!

  33. I have always wanted one of these ladders in my home though I am deathly afraid of heights. At my first design job I worked in the library and had to climb one of these ladders 12+ feet in the air to put away vendor binders. HORRIFYING. I cursed those high ceilings every day. Still love the ladder look though...

  36. I LOVE a library ladder...and fingers crossed...I THINK I might be getting one in my new closet! You have no idea how excited this makes me for a multitude of reasons, not the least of which is my height disadvantage, and the idea of using it as a prop to act out musicals in the privacy of my own closet!

  37. Sue, aren't they a great touch and addition to any room!! Great images.

  44. I am SO with you, girl! A ladder will unfortunately not be moving in here any time soon (sigh). But I am trying to convince my friend Bianca (or rather her hubby!) who just moved into a large beautiful home to allocate an area in the house for tall industrial/vintage looking book shelves and a ladder!

I will send her your post!

  58. The inset bunk bed is awesome! If only my sister and I had that when we shared a bedroom...sigh.

P.S. Anna Wintour is FRIGHTENING. Plus, she's in her sixties (I think) and looks as though she's forty-five. It's creepy.

  59. if only i had a house big enough to require such a ladder.
i love it in windsor smith's kitchen best.
i love everything about her kitchen. i would never leave that fucking kitchen. i would cook in the middle of the night all nigella style..like i was doing something sinful. and then i would eat the hell out of whatever it was i cooked and smear it all over my face and then go back to bed satisfied like no man could ever......
    uhhh...sorry.
sometimes good design makes me think nasty thoughts.
    word.

  60. Love them in closets! Could def take a bath/closet like the second last photo!

  61. Love these!! I have fantasies about sailing around swinging off the ladder singing away
(and yes, I watch far too many Disney movies...)

    ReplyDelete
  62. OH DEFINITELY! Whenever I see a library ladder, it ends up being one of my favorite elements in the room. So many ways to use these - I particularly like the short one on the bed in the child's room in the picture above. Darling!

I've wanted a library with a ladder for as long as I can remember. I especially want one that's on a track and rolls around. The only problem is I would need a massive book collection and to overcome my fear of heights.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I would love a ladder in a big kitchen with cabinets up to the ceiling. There is something so elegant and grown up about the ladder for me. I just love it. Fun post! Carol

  65. Oh to have a library in which to put a ladder. Floor to ceiling built ins...SWOON!

  69. A good game of "shoots and ladders" is always fun. I always wanted a barn and a ladder to the hay loft!
Guess you can take a gal out of Kentucky, but never take the Kentucky out, a barn, ahh, now that would be a dream to have!

  70. Wish I had rooms high enough to incorporate such! They are fabulous and the kitchen with the ladder is gorgeous! Great finds!

  71. Susan, aren't these the BEST?!
I am lucky enough to have one
    in our little home library/office.
People just gravitate to that room
    when they see the ladder....
And of course, everyone wants to
climb it, too! When we bought our
house, it came with all of the books
that were above the ladder. We had
to supply the books, etc. for the
shelves that you can access without
the ladder. So, I haunt book sales
and even garage sales to try and fill
up that space. I also have other
things on the shelves. GREAT post!
    xx Suzanne

  85. first of all, kudos to you for finding 878,397,021 pictures of a new design staple i wasn't yet aware of. second, i love how perfectly the library ladder combines both style and function — a painted one brings a delicious dose of color while one placed in a kitchen is endlessly handy for those of us measuring in at just over five feet. lurve this post.
