Oh my! I have seen the rocking chair in pic #6 for a long time in antique malls, flea markets and estate sales and have just passed over them -- however that picture is making me look at them in a different way!!
Oh they certainly are! These are great too. I've been wanting a rocking chair for like ever but couldn't find a style I liked and that would fit in my space until now. Thanks!
Love the aesthetic, though somehow I don't find them comfy. The cane back chair (with the Arco lamp) is gorgeous and the one in the last pic is my favorite.
The black one with woven back...that's the kind we have. We were going to use it in the nursery but it needs some TLC and I would hate for it to break. So reptty. I am also a fan of the Eames rocker. xo
I've always loved rocking chairs - there's just something so homey about them! My grandmother used to have the best orange wooden one but it's long gone now...
my mom has that exact bentwood rocker. she has relegated it to the basement storage room. i think she either needs to give it to me(!) or bring it out of hiding!! xo
It is certainly not your imagination! I have been seeing a lot of these rocking around in many good inspirational homes. It just reminded me, maybe i need one to rock it too.
There really is something soothing about a rocking chair - maybe it brings us back to our childhood, or maybe just the soothing rocking squeak is has a calming effect.
I am still impressed with the simplicity of SJP's chair in her Hampton's home. Great post.
These are all beautiful! I love number two because it looks like a piece of art/sculpture by itself. It may need a cushion for comfortable rocking though:-).
When I was little I remember we had a such a chair! But I really don't know what is happened with it!! Love these chairs and indeed you discover them on every magazine now!! xx Greet PS Thank you so much for stopping by today!
Oh totally! I couldn't live without mine (which btw looks exactly like the one in the third pic from below) ...Perhaps I'll paint it black, that looks awfully chic! Xx
Rocking chairs are great aren't they! I bought one for my friend when she had a baby but after it sat in my lounge for a month I didn't want to give it away haha. I love the mirror in the fourth pic down by the way!
Rock on! Every house needs a rocker. I like mine on the porch, mixed with a long view into the distance. I love gliders, swings, hammocks, and hanging wicker chairs from the 70's. I occasionally like one with a guitar.
These babes can rock on for ever in my book! I have hung onto an old heirloom rocking chair that my grandmother had in her home as a young girl. It needs a little TLC but will look fab when restored. I love rocking chairs!
I totally agree! And I am really glad I stumbled along your blog. I found a beautiful rocking chair in my Mom's attic and was wondering if I should dust it off! Now I think I just might.
So pretty! What a lovely round up. This makes me think, isn't it nice to know that new moms who are looking for a rocking chair for a babies room can have some fab rather than the regular drab?? Nancy
I have noticed several rocking chairs when I have been out looking for furniture for the house. I have an old wicker one I bought at auction, and i drag it out side for the summer and then back into the dry for winter. http://kathleenjackson.blogspot.com
I have a rocker similar to the one in #6 from my grandma - it's a little worse for wear and I was thinking I need to paint it. I just need to figure out what room it wants to live in. I love rockers!!!
Yes!! Agreed! And I would love the one in picture 2...very today, but also yesterday. So, like, omniscient? hehe

ReplyDeletesuch a fun rocking chair! mod and traditional is such a great combo. :)
ReplyDeleteVery true observation! I have been wanting an Eames rocker for so long and I really don't think it will ever go out of style.
ReplyDeleteAwww makes me miss my rocker. I let my SIL borrow it, they broke it before I had even left that weekend.
ReplyDeleteI really like how they incorporated these rockers with amazingly chic furniture and decor!
Rocking Chairs have been my childhood obsession but we never had the right corner or enough space or one. Really like the wooden chair!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the one where the poster on the mantel has a rocking chair to match!

The wooden rocker in the second photo is simply amazing! I now have it as my mission to try and hunt it down.
ReplyDeleteTWO of my friends purchased really cool modern rocking chairs lately!!
ReplyDeleteThese are all beautiful! I love number two because it looks like a piece of art/sculpture by itself. It may need a cushion for comfortable rocking though:-).
ReplyDeleteVery fun! Something do soothing about the motion of back...and forth...back....and forth. xo E
ReplyDeleteI love it. I've got a rocking chair in storage that was passed down to me, maybe it's time for it to re-appear!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little I remember we had a such a chair! But I really don't know what is happened with it!!

the wooden classic one is one of my faves together with the fab Eames!!
ReplyDeleteHa! I hope so. We have one that was my great grandmothers.
ReplyDeleteSuch a soothing piece of furniture...
ReplyDeleteWe had one with a cane back and seat growing up and I now wonder what became of it. Everything seems to come back eventually, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteOh totally! I couldn't live without mine (which btw looks exactly like the one in the third pic from below) ...Perhaps I'll paint it black, that looks awfully chic! Xx
ReplyDeleteoooh yea. i am loving this round up doll face.....rocking chairs are rocking my world lately. xo
ReplyDeletethey definitely are!! i like them, wouldn't mind one!
ReplyDeleteLove a rocking chair -- vintage or not! Dying for a pair for my upstairs' porch.
ReplyDeleteRocking chairs are great aren't they! I bought one for my friend when she had a baby but after it sat in my lounge for a month I didn't want to give it away haha. I love the mirror in the fourth pic down by the way!
ReplyDeleteI wish my mom had hung on to the one we had growing up... xx
ReplyDeleteI have one in my own "naughty corner" where I sit with my LARGE gin and contemplate. A must and cheaper than a shrink. xo
ReplyDeleteLove the simple aesthetic of them!
ReplyDeleteSusan - be sure to stop by when you have time - I have an award I'd like to give you. Very much deserved. =)
ReplyDeletethe 2nd and last one are rocking my world. pun fully intended.
ReplyDeleteI loooooooove the white one. So cool. It would be perfect in our teeny tiny nursery!
