I came across the quote "Bloom where you're planted." a few weeks ago, and it really resonated with me. I'm sure there's several different ways to interpret this, but for me, it means appreciate your life as it is, today.
Lately, I've found myself getting caught up in the "my life would be perfect, if I _______" way of thinking. You could fill in the blank with so many thoughts... "My life would be perfect if I lost ten pounds, lived in that house, drove that car, got that job" we've all had those moments where we find ourselves longing for a different situation than the one we're in.
Scrolling through Instagram and seeing so many beautiful beaches and European cities, it's easy to get caught up in this type of longing. So I've decided to change up my perspective a bit and make a conscious effort to look for the beauty in my everyday life (on my way to school pick up or an errand, or even my own back yard). I hope you enjoy these scenic pics of the charming suburban towns in my little neck of the woods, if you like this idea, share something from your own neighborhood and tag me (@zhush) I'd love to see where you're blooming!
One of my favorite quotes. My mom has that hanging in her family room.
ReplyDeleteI love that saying. It is so easy to covet the lives, things and travels of others, but it is really important to be happy today with your current status, or else change. I think about down sizing or moving one day, but since that is not in the plans, I appreciate what Ive got and work hard to keep it in the best shape. Same goes for me personally. I work at trying to stay grounded when all else around me is a mess, and it's really hard sometimes! Love your resolve and I hope you have an amazing summer!!! Your heads in the right place, for sure. xox Nancy
ReplyDeletePerspective....it's a wonderful tool. I was told by my father growing up that in life know matter what you have, someone will always have more, but remember, you will always have more than someone else. I'll never forget him telling me that and it's kept me grounded.
ReplyDeleteDon't be happy with what you have, be happy with what you create.

I love that you and I had the same quote on the brain today, Sue. I believe that while there's always room for aspiration and ambition in life, we can't afford to miss what's amazing and beautiful in the right now and every day. Hope you find the beauty in yours and thanks for the reminder to look for happiness in our own backyard! XOXO
ReplyDeleteThere's no place like home, thank you for the reminder to find beauty in our own worlds every day. You certainly are surrounded by charming beauty.
ReplyDeleteI really love this quote too Sue...When I first stumbled upon it, it resonated deeply in my core as I've always thought I was supposed to live the "city" life vs. the suburban one. I was always so energized by the fast-paced downtown vibes that the city has to offer but really understood this quote to mean that I should find inspiration exactly where I am...not where I "think" I should be. Perfect way to start my week, with some perspective :D thanks for sharing!

What a nice quote!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely thought. It speaks to me the same way that it does to you. One of the things that I really strive to do is to "curate" the time I spend online. Example: I find that I love visiting a few sites (such as yours!), but I do not spend hours upon hours scrolling through feeds and images and ideas that are not real to me. I really try to spend my time on my own life, not watching the lives of other people. I embrace the inspiration that the online world can give to me, and I try to step away before it can alter my own sense of reality. I have realized that I am happiest when I am creating my own life and simply enjoying the days as they are given to me.
ReplyDeleteI positively extol such a philosophy as that….a pity we lose sight of it in our never ending quest to find something better and bigger somewhere else from wherever we are and whatever we are doing….but truly, living a magical life means finding the beauty that is hidden for us in the everyday….it's a great quote….
