Summer is usually the time to catch up on all those books... However, this year, with our big move in the works and our current house on the market, I've been finding hard to find the time to sit down and really get lost in a good read.
I did manage to start The Opposite of Loneliness: Essays and Stories and #Girlboss, both very different and very good. And, both are the type of books that you can pick up, put down for a while and pick up again when you have some time...they tend to stay in my beach bag for that reason.
The third book, A Homemade Life, was recommended to me by a close friend. She had me read this exerpt (and I was hooked!) This one's now on my night stand. Check it out:
"Having a blog is strange. I never know whether to be proud (I'm young and hip! I'm with it! I have a blog!) or sheepish (So, uh, yeah, I have, uh, a blog? I take pictures of my dinner. But enough about me! Let's talk about you.) It's a classic love-hate relationship. And like the human-to-human kind, the human to blog kind is oddly addictive. It's hard to beat the rush that comes when you press "Publish," sending your words out into the ether, or the satisfaction that stems from someone leaving a comment on your site. There's always a twinge of fear-Will anyone read this? Will I alienate all my friends?-but so long as it's only a twinge, its tolerable. Delicious even."
The author of A Homemade Life, Molly Wizenberg, writes a popular food blog, Orangette. I don't typically read food blogs or books like this one which focuses on recipes and cooking, but Mollly Wizenberg is one fabulous writer...I might even have to try one or two of her recipes!:)
Are you reading any great books this summer?

Great book choices, Sue! I read "A Homemade Life" and really enjoyed it a lot. And, the Marina Keegan back story is so sad I haven't been able to bring myself to read the book. Let me know how it is.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous weekend, my dear! xoxo

ReplyDeleteGood luck with your home!
Thanks for sharing, Sue! I think I'm going to have to pick up the Homemade Life as I can totally relate to the excerpt you shared. Have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteSue,
ReplyDeleteLove reading all year, but there is something nice about having a dedicated list of books to read or stacks of books on my nightstand. Currently, I am reading "Goldfinch" and also "Ten Poems to change your life" - Thanks for sharing good reads during your up coming move. Reading calms me.

Thanks for the suggestions!
ReplyDeleteI read Where'd You Go Bernadette, which was different and entertaining. And an older book, The Bean Trees, which was excellent. Everyone says The Goldfinch is great, so I've got that reserved at the library.
I just love summer reading!
