My Blue and White Porcelain Obsession

Last year, if you asked me if I collected anything, I probably would've said no. After our recent move, when confronted with all of our possessions and the task of unpacking them -  it dawned on me... I do have a collection and a fairly large one at that. Obviously, blue and white porcelain of all shapes and sizes is what I collect.

I even remember where and when I bought my first piece, years ago on our honeymoon in Hawaii. I wanted a little memento of our beautiful hotel room and picked up a very small round lidded box at the hotel's gift shop.  Shortly after, I remember acquiring a few more pieces for our first apartment in New York City at The Bombay Company Store.  I thought it made our place look quite sophisticated.  I still have these pieces today.

These days I find myself mostly searching Etsy for ginger and temple jars to add to my collection.  I pride myself on never paying a lot for these items. That's part of the appeal of these pieces; it's not always so easy to differentiate a bargain from a high-end antique. Other great sources of late have been One Kings Lane and William Sonoma Home, I've even gotten a few favorite finds from Amazon.

Going over the images that Nicole Cohen took of our home, I got a kick out of spotting all of the blue and white porcelain I've amassed through the years.

  1. Beautiful pictures! My blue and white ginger jars are my favorites, too - the thrill of the hunt for inexpensive scores keeps it exciting, as well! The grass cloth in your master bedroom is stunning - would you share the manufacturer and color way? Happy Tuesday!

    1. Thanks Kelly! The paper is from Kravet, but I forget the colorway, it was a number, and that's all I remember...

  2. I love all your blue and white! My collection has just started, and I'm so glad to read about yours. In fact, my latest find looks a lot like your first photo.

  3. Sue, you do have a lovely collection. My girlfriend and I joke that our husbands are about to stage an intervention and send us off to blue and white reform school, but truly you can never have too much. It was my Grandmother who had a love for Chinoiserie who started my obsession. I like to think of her with every new piece that finds it's way home with me! XO
